Back up and running

Grade 5 drawing coral.  The fifth graders drew coral by observing actual pieces.  They will eventually transfer these drawings to a piece of foam.  They will use that foam drawing to create a print of their coral drawings.

Op art

This student has really challenged herself in this example of Op art.  She has blended 2 different illusions and has worked very hard to make both work together.

Op Art

The fifth grade has been working on optical illusion art or "op art."  This type of artwork is very challenging.  Many of the concepts are very advanced but the fifth graders are taking it in stride.  You can see the results of their hard work and comprehension in these 2 samples.

Aztec suns

In fifth grade we talked about bi-lateral an radial symmetry.  The students were asked to create a sun on black construction paper while keeping in mind radial symmetry. They were also asked to create a face within their design.  The face had to be bi- laterally symmetrical. They then used metallic colored pencils and special gel markers to color in and enhance the sun design.

Snowy, sleepy town

Fifth graders are finishing up a black and white picture.  Their assignment was to draw a sleepy snowy town.  They then had to paint the picture using only black and white.  We talked about shadow and shading prior to painting.  Each student practiced in pencil first in their sketch books.
