Third graders painted a picture of four white birch trees using acrylic paint. They then painted another picture of a sunset on a separate piece of wet paper using tempera paints in cake form. These tempera paint cakes act like water colors. The students then cut out their birch trees and glued them onto the sunset background. Notice how much the birch trees pop off the page. Notice the positive and negative spaces created.
